My practice is based in developing sound objects and creating sonic collages in a music concrète fashion.
I utilise various methods to create the sound objects for the means of the current project. For this part of the process I may use a number of recording technologies and sound sources e.g. samplers, magnetic audio tape, synthesisers, etc. That is just the starting point, however. After these sounds are collected, a narrative (loose or highly structured) must be formed. I employ the use of text scores as implemented by Pauline Oliveros as a scaffolding like composition tool. Another method is field recording a soundscape and using life’s rhythms and sounds as the score, putting my sound objects in their place. The sound objects I create may be acousmatic or completely crafted from imagination. In the near future I am looking to explore recording physical objects as a source for composition beyond typical music instruments …(guitar, synthesiser).
Once I have formed the composition, I seek ways to place the objects within a room or place and record them together in a space. Currently I am looking to use multiple speakers and re-amplification methods to tell whatever story I have written so the sounds may bed together and interact with one another acoustically.
